Horse racing and its dress-code!

By  |  Comments
Horse racing has gone a long way and today it is one of the most prestigious sports. It was organised by Ancient Romans, but first true horse racing took place in 1780 and it was initiated by lord Derby.
That is enough about the history, because I wanted to tell you about something different today 😉

For the first time in history, on 19th June a race within the prestigious series of Crystal Cup Country Challenge took place on a race course in Wrocław! The course in Partynice in Wrocław was included in the international series of races that take place for example in: Merano (Italy), Cheltenham (England), Pardubice (Czech Republic). The race was 5500m long, it was an obstacle race and the general price bank was 172 thousand zł! 🙂

Apart from the great emotions provided by the race, wonderful horses and handsome jockeys 😉 it was also a fashion event – another edition of the biggest Polish fashion trade, namely Fashion Meeting Style! What did we see? Fashion shows, booths with independent clothing from Polish designers, free make-ups and cosmetic advice, along with extraordinary, free consultations with a stylist! … namely – me 😉 It was admission free!!! 🙂
Horse racing has a very strict dress-code. If you want to attend one, you have to adjust, as you will be in a very “good company” 🙂
On the horse racing in Ascot, where the very Queen Elizabeth II attend the party, organisers, in order to limit the fashion fantasy of invited guests, make a code of an appropriate outfit. First of all, it has to be elegant! All the women have to wear hats and forget about clothes that might be too bold. Translucent dresses as well as those without straps are absolutely forbidden. Here is the dress-code abiding in the Royal Sector:
Women:
-elegant day outfit
-dress/skirt should be modest, of appropriate length – meaning knee-length or longer
-shoulders should be covered
-outwear and shawls are allowed
-ladies’ suits are also allowed, but they have to be made of appropriate material in a given colour
-hats are obligatory
-other headwear is possible, under the condition that it has a basis of at least 10 cm diameter
-shoulders and stomachs have to be covered
-head sprays are forbidden (obligatory hats)
Men:
-grey or black outfit consisting of: vest, tie, hat is obligatory
-men can take off their headwear at a restaurant, in private loge, terrace, balcony and garden
-hats can also be taken off in any room that is in a garden
-it is forbidden to decorate hats
-black shoes are obligatory

But in practice, what to wear to such event? First of all, it has to be elegant – modest, but elegant. You can get a little wild only when it comes to the hat 🙂 Shorts, pedal pushers, dresses that show your shoulders and that show through in general have to be spared for another occasion 🙂

Here are some photos from the big world of horse racing 🙂
